Pressy Church in Ngaruawahia on fire!
He has attended several ‘Change the DNA of Your Church’ events and is leading from the front when it comes to evangelism.
Below is what he has written about what’s happening in his home town and with members of his church.
David is leading a true missional church.
“A number of towns in the Waikato have embarked on deliberate and intentional evangelism, the results are mind blowing.
Of the 200 homes we visited, there was one violent refusal “Get off my property now!”
There were six polite “no thanks you’s” and six who received Christ there and then.
The balance were courteous and polite.
They listened and engaged and they thanked the person for coming and commended the local church for finally getting out there and spreading the word.
The opposition to evangelism inside the Church is a work of the devil. We have taken the bait. We have become like the 10 spies who returned from their exploration of Canaan giving a bad report. The bad report spread and the troops were immobilised (Numbers 13:1-33). History is repeating.
What we have found is that non-Christians actually REALLY want to hear the gospel.
So how has our church been mobilised to evangelise our town? What are the keys?
First it is the pastor or minister who must lead by equipping and training the people and modelling by example.
If I as the minister don’t evangelise, no one else will. To read about this, click here.
I have one saint, she is in her seventies, five foot nothing and a quiet little soul who once said to me “Don’t you ask me to ever go out their and share the gospel.”
Sharing the Gospel with others does this to you.
We have just eight on our team so far – the goal is to communicate the gospel to every home in Ngaruawahia within a year and when we finish? We’ll start again.
Jesus said in Acts 1:8 to focus on our Jerusalem initially, so this is what we are doing.
We are only one of a number of towns around here where this is happening.
A second key to mobilising a church for evangelism is to attend an Evangelism Strategies International “Change the DNA of Your Church” one day seminar or have Julian or one of his team preach a series of messages in your church on Sunday mornings.
The DNA of our church HAD to change and is continuing to change.
The Holy Spirit delights to work through a true Ephesians 4:11-15 evangelist to effect this end.
So find an evangelist like this, and find a church which wants to be ignited into evangelism. Bring the two together and watch the Holy Spirit light the fire!.
A third key to mobilising a church is prayer. But prayer alone is not enough.
Many churches never move beyond prayer into taking decisive action.
A fourth key is having the right tools to deliver the gospel. One of the reasons we Christians have been reluctant to evangelise is that we have not had good tools – tools that are easy to use, well received by the unchurched, uncompromising in their content, not intellectually insulting, and well road tested. We now have the tools.
Right now the Spirit is bringing in people virtually every week, so come on people let’s be at it and may all the glory be to Him and to His Kingdom.
This is an exciting, living-giving journey. I encourage you to join in!”
